The benefits of developing machines in-house ‘Developing all our machines in-house has many advantages,’ explains Ezra, a mechatronics engineer in the Engineering & Automation team. ‘It is very rewarding to test what you have programmed in practice and continue monitoring the machine afterwards. If there is a complex fault, there is always someone in-house who knows the machine inside out.’
Designing, building, and maintaining, that’s how we keep our machines running at Quooker
At Quooker, we design, build and maintain our own machines. This allows our mechatronics engineers to test their work in practice and continue improving it. Meanwhile, the Maintenance team keeps our production machinery running smoothly. Ezra explains what it is like to work on machines and automation at Quooker.

Combining software with hands-on machine work Ezra joined Quooker as a graduation intern. He enjoyed both the work and the atmosphere in the department so much that he decided to stay. ‘One moment you are working on software at your desk, and the next you are in the factory fitting brackets or adjusting sensors on a machine. That combination of working with your head and your hands is what makes the job so enjoyable.’ ‘We have a great, young team. We work well together and regularly meet up outside working hours too, from playing padel to spending a weekend snowboarding with colleagues.’
Engineering & Automation and Maintenance work closely together Engineering & Automation works closely with Maintenance. The fact that Quooker develops and builds its own machines also makes maintenance easier. ‘The machines are partly standardised. For example, the control cabinets are built in the same way for every machine, and the software also follows a clear structure. This makes the work much easier for Maintenance. Even so, no two days are the same at Quooker.’
Maintenance is responsible for both preventive and corrective maintenance on Quooker’s machines. When a fault occurs, the two teams work together to identify the cause and get the machine running again. ‘If a machine stops for any reason, Maintenance is called in. If the problem is caused by a bug or programming error, my department gets involved. We are working together more and more closely, which I personally really enjoy.’
Proud of the company ‘Quooker now has an impressive range of production machinery,’ says Ezra. ‘That really struck me again when I recently brought my family to work during the Family Fun Fair. I suddenly saw the company through their eyes and felt proud to be part of it.’
