From florist to service technician at Quooker: Chantal made the switch

Chantal worked as a florist for many years until she decided to change course and apply at Quooker. She started as a production worker, but now travels across the country as a service technician, carrying out installations and repairs.

'The contact with people is the best part of it all.'

“The freedom and variety are wonderful,” says Chantal about her work at Quooker. “As a service technician, I’m always on the road and visit all kinds of people in their homes. Some are cozy and homely, others are very sleek and spotless. I see a wide range of interiors. The contact with people is the best part of it all—installing their new tap, solving a problem, sharing a joke along the way. I like to make it an enjoyable experience.”

Most people are surprised, however, when they open the door and see Chantal standing there. “They usually expect a man. They think I’m a delivery driver.” At first, Chantal herself was unsure whether she could do it, coming from a background as a florist. Was she technical enough to become a service technician? “At Quooker, they believed in me and supported me very well. I shadowed a colleague for a while, and then I went out on my own. If I can’t solve an issue by myself, there’s always a colleague I can call. If needed, they’ll even come out to help me.”

In terms of working with people, her job is actually quite similar to being a florist. “You need the same communication skills.” But does she miss the flower shop? “No. I now work from seven to four every day, and I have weekends off. That was very different in my previous life! This job gives me peace of mind, also because Quooker is a very pleasant employer. Your salary is always paid on time, and you’re involved in everything. At Quooker, they truly care about their people—you can just feel it.”
