Demelza on learning at Quooker: ‘I keep challenging myself’

At Quooker, we encourage employees to keep developing themselves. Through our training calendar, we offer a wide range of courses and training sessions during working hours. Production employee Demelza Schneider enthusiastically makes use of these opportunities.

‘Because I work with my hands all day, I like challenging my mind as well.’

“The first training I attended was about resilience,” says Demelza. “I went into it with an open mind. I enjoy learning new things and looking at situations from a different perspective, I was simply curious.” The training consisted of two three-hour sessions led by an external expert. “The role-playing exercises especially taught me a lot. By acting out certain situations, I was really confronted with how I behave. I can be quite direct, but is that always the best approach? I realised that in some situations it’s better to stay a bit calmer.”

Head and hands Demelza has been working at Quooker’s production department for three years. Her husband had already been working at Quooker for several years before she joined. He assembles taps, while she works on the tanks. Demelza enjoys her work a lot, but also finds it important to continue developing herself. “Especially because I work with my hands all day, I really appreciate having my mind challenged as well. That’s why I value the courses and training sessions Quooker regularly offers. I try to follow at least one every year.”

A valuable experience Recently, Demelza attended a training called Taking control of your performance review. “Not because I struggle with it, but because I wanted to see if there was anything I could improve.” Again, role-playing exercises were part of the training. “It gave me valuable insights into how I come across to others. I think these are lessons I’ll benefit from for the rest of my life — not only at work, but outside of work too.”

Innovative thinking Demelza’s next training is already scheduled: Innovative Thinking. What does she expect from it? “Simply to know a little more than I do now. To gain new insights and experiences and to break routines.” She has not yet convinced her husband to join a training course himself. “He has different goals and hobbies. But for that, Quooker has a vitality calendar with all kinds of activities: yoga, boxing and even personal training. That’s definitely something for me too! This way, I keep developing myself , and that feels really good.”
