Quooker colleagues Kim and Steven give sports classes

With the Quooker vitality program, we keep our employees active. What makes it even more enjoyable is that some of the classes, such as yoga and boxing, are taught by enthusiastic colleagues themselves.

“I personally find yoga the ultimate way to unwind after a workday,” says Kim, a Tactical Buyer at Quooker who also enthusiastically teaches yoga classes after hours. This started when the regular yoga instructor didn’t show up one time and Kim stepped in. “After that, colleagues kept asking: when are you going to teach us again? So I started doing it. I enjoy sharing the benefits of yoga with my colleagues and letting them experience what it can do for you. Stretching after a day behind your computer is so good for your body!”

“You feel fitter, more relaxed, and you get to do something fun with your colleagues.”

Using all your muscles Steven, our Field Service Coordinator, also teaches sports classes. “Colleagues can sign up for one of my boxing classes 19 times a year. They’re allowed to stop working fifteen minutes early to come and train. I teach them that boxing is all about technique, show them how to defend themselves, and how to kick without getting injured. People sometimes think boxing is an aggressive sport, but the opposite is true: after a busy workday, you can let everything out—both on the pads and the punching bags—after which you head into your evening completely relaxed.”

Accessible to everyone Both Kim and Steven have been given their own space on the Quooker premises. All the equipment they need for their training sessions is available. “I asked the HR department for ten pairs of boxing gloves, pads, and a kick shield, and it was there the next day.” Kim ordered mats, yoga blocks, and a generous supply of Yogi Tea. “Colleagues don’t have to bring anything themselves; everything is here. That makes it accessible for everyone. No experience is required—the classes are very approachable.”

By the way, the sports classes don’t only take place at our headquarters in Ridderkerk, but also at our HUB in Rotterdam South.

Heading home relaxed At first, Steven saw a few familiar faces at his sessions, but his boxing classes are becoming increasingly popular. Kim sometimes joins them too. “Steven’s boxing classes are great and very relaxing, and I also love attending the dance workouts by Karlee, a Supply Chain Planner at Quooker. It’s fantastic that Quooker makes so much room for physical activity, because that hour of exercise after work makes all the difference. You feel fitter, more relaxed, and you get to do something fun with your colleagues.”

And since Kim doesn’t live nearby, there’s another advantage: “After that hour of exercise, the traffic jams are gone and I can drive straight home.”
