Challenging, but enjoyable. Life as a Product Engineer at Quooker
At Quooker’s Research & Development department, innovations are developed day in, day out. Within the department, a team of Product Engineers focuses on making small changes to components that are needed to scale up our production. Sometimes, however, it’s the smallest changes that have the greatest impact…

“Demand for Quooker taps is increasing worldwide. To be able to produce so many Quookers, we need to optimise our production processes. Sometimes, a small change to a product or component can already make production faster and more efficient.”
Speaking is Dionijs, who has been working in Quooker’s R&D department since 2012. At the time, the department consisted of ten people. Today, that number has grown to nearly eighty. “The company has grown enormously,” he says. “We’re active in nineteen countries, and that number will only increase in the future. That scaling brings many consequences, and we need to anticipate them.”
Chain reaction For Dionijs and his team, anticipating means identifying opportunities to make changes to products that enable faster and more efficient production. That’s far from easy. “Because,” he explains, “every change can trigger a huge chain reaction within the company. If you change a single screw, it affects the machines that build our products, the products already on the market, the manuals — and so on. Even the simplest adjustments are complex.”
Sounding board Dionijs’ team works on various projects. He supports his team members when they get stuck and can’t move forward. He acts as a sounding board, someone to spar with when things get challenging. “What I enjoy about my work is that no two days are the same. So much is happening within the company. You can make a plan for the day, but before you know it, someone is standing at your desk with an urgent issue.”
Dionijs also sees it as an advantage that Quooker’s factory is located under the same roof as the offices. “We receive very direct feedback from the factory, which we can act on immediately. It’s also helpful when we need to deliver less positive news in person — for example, when we want to implement a change that may be temporarily disadvantageous for people working in the factory.”
Growing further Dionijs appreciates the many opportunities at Quooker to grow or specialise, although he initially hesitated to take on a managerial role. “Simply because I still enjoyed putting out fires myself far too much.” Eventually, he made the move. “I never expected to still be working at Quooker after twelve years. But it remains challenging — every single day. And that’s exactly why I stay.”
