Quooker’s BI&IM Department Is Building a Strong Foundation for the Future

Quooker is currently transforming from a mid-sized company into an international market leader. We are working hard to create a foundation that will support the company for decades to come. The Business Intelligence & Information Management (BI&IM) department plays a crucial role in this transformation.

'At Quooker, we throw our clogs over the ditch and go for it.'

“Change and innovation are part of Quooker’s DNA,” says Ricardo van Gelder, Manager of the BI&IM department. “These changes don’t always happen step by step; more often, they involve significant leaps forward. We’re also not afraid to take technological risks. That makes it an incredibly exciting place to work.”

Ricardo’s department has recently gone through an intense period. For two years, the team worked on replacing Quooker’s ERP system. “This is the business software that manages core processes such as purchasing, sales, production, and inventory within a single central database,” Ricardo explains.

A Complex Puzzle “This system forms the heart of our IT landscape. It needed to be replaced with a more efficient solution that could better support the company’s growth. It was like performing open-heart surgery—an incredibly complex puzzle involving around fifty people. Last week marked the climax, when the new system went live.” Now Ricardo’s team is preparing for phase two: connecting all countries where Quooker operates to the new system.

“Once that’s accomplished, we’ll be able to achieve major efficiency gains and collaborate seamlessly across international markets. We’re going to reap the benefits of that for years to come.”

An Analytical Mindset and a Solution-Oriented Approach Making business processes smarter and faster so Quooker can continue to grow successfully—that, in a nutshell, is what the BI&IM department does. The team consists of business analysts and data analysts who support departments across the company with a wide variety of challenges. Ricardo gives an example:

“Our logistics business analyst received a question about the new distribution center and how to effectively manage the arrival and departure of suppliers. Our department then investigates the issue. Ultimately, we selected a tool that will ensure truck drivers know exactly which dock they should unload at.”

Creating Impact Proactively responding to developments and trends in technology and society is also part of the business analysts’ role. “For example, we are currently exploring how AI can be integrated into our organization. Within the service department, for instance, an AI chatbot could significantly reduce workload. That’s something we’re actively working on right now.” According to Ricardo, that is exactly what makes the job so rewarding: “You can genuinely make an impact and help the organization become better and more efficient. We are on the verge of a major leap in professionalization—we’re throwing our clogs over the ditch and going for it. Being able to contribute to that is both exciting and incredibly rewarding.”
